DECEMBER 2005 – BLACK N LA

VeronicaVeronica’s View by: Veronica Hendrix

To help you apply the principles of prudence and restraint – with a little creativity – I’ve compiled my second annual Veronica’s Favorite Holiday Things, which I admit is a shameless emulation of Oprah’s Favorite Things, but overall, a more practical alternative. I hope you find something on this list to either suit yourself, that special someone, the persnickety peeps in your life, or the folks who have everything. All are less than $300. Some can be purchased on the web. Happy shopping.

The Journey of Henry Box Brown – This wonderful, animated DVD tells the true story of Henry Box Brown, a slave who mailed himself in a wooden box from a plantation in Richmond, Virginia to freedom in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1848. It is written and produced by actress Karyn Parsons from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” fame and is narrated by Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Alfre Woodard. A great gift for children. Available at www.sweetblackberry.com. Price: $14.95
